Buying the Right Pressure Washer Replacement Pumps

Without a doubt, the part that fails the most in pressure washers are the pumps. The pump is what truly makes the pressure washer tick, and because of the high pressure it constantly has to operate under it's no wonder why they are the first to fail. If your pump fails, you can either send it back for repairs or try to tackle the job yourself. If you send it back for repairs, it might take several weeks and cost you hundreds of dollars. However, if you're pretty competent with repairs and whatnot, you might want to consider trying to repair the pressure washer yourself. All you need is to find yourself a replacement pump.

Do you know what type of pump you have? Pumps are not easily interchangeable. There are 2 basic types of pumps, ceramic and axial. If you want the best of the best, then you should be looking at ceramic pumps. Ceramic pumps have the greatest longevity, smoothest action, and will not clog or corrode due to minerals and other deposits in the water. Axial pumps are almost as good, as long as it's brass. Brass pumps won't corrode from the deposits in the water like stainless steel pumps will. Of course, ceramic costs more than brass which costs more than stainless steel, so the type of pump you have will probably be dictated by how much you want to spend and how often you will use the pressure washer.

You can get replacement pumps one of two ways: direct from the manufacturer or distributor, or from 3rd party retailers on the internet. If you want OEM quality parts, and are willing to pay OEM quality prices, then give the manufacturer a call. They will often have a parts department, or will refer you to one of their main distributors who will be able to help you out with a new pump. These pumps will be the best quality, but will cost you an arm and a leg. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative, search the internet for a replacement pump. Internet retailers promising OEM-quality replacement parts often cost 33-50% less than their manufacturer-grade equivalent. However, if you're buying from the internet, definitely check out the retailer first. Not everyone makes great quality products, and you don't want to put sub-par replacement pumps into your pressure washer.

Sure you can spend hundreds getting your pressure washer fixed by a repairman, but why bother when most of the time you can do it yourself? If you're good at repairs, just get a reference manual, find the correct replacement pump, and dedicate one Saturday afternoon to fixing your pressure washer. You might save hundreds!
